Coordinators Report on AGM

Mosamaria held its AGM on Saturday the 16th of July 2016. It was well attended and the following members were elected to serve on the Board: Bishop Dintoe Letloenyane, Dr.Ellen Blekie, Mme Kabelo Makhetha, John Anderson, Bruce Harrison, Gerald Roberts, Mme Matlalane Liphoto, Solomzi Henge, Mohapi Mosala, Fr.Andile Mbutya and Fr.Lazarus Mohapi. Bishop Tom stays our Patron for life. The board will elect the office bearers and the Executive Committee at its first meeting in late August.

The highlight of the meeting was the testimony given by a young lady who has been supported by Letshego Rapulana and Kelebogile Ditema through our OVC project in Mangaung. It was a most moving testimony which reduced many of us to tears to hear about the truly dreadful and traumatic life that this young lady has lived. She has been gang raped, sexually and physically abused again and again by the father of her second child, lived in the dumping site trying to find food and sleeping under plastic with her child.

She came to Letshego to ask for help and told of all the support that she received and how Letshego had “held her hand” and walked with her to the police station on many occasions to lay a charge against the abusive man, helped her to get permission to stay in the house that was contested by this man, got a court restraining order against him, helped her with food supplies, and generally supported her and her two children to get their lives together.

This lady said that one of the most painful things in her life was that she did not have any idea who the father of her firstborn child is because he was wearing a balaclava when he raped her. She has contracted HIV from one of the men who raped her.
